Everyone knows that the role of test pilot is the daftest job in the world but what is the actual death rate? How does one get this job and how well paid is it? Would like to know everything about this dangerous profession if anyone here knows anything about it.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

TrollBoy12 must be bored .
Risky but not as risky as it used to be. Many tests are done pilotless these days. No aerospace company is going to expect their staff to put their lives on the line for the company. Most pilots wouldn`t say it`s a daft job. Many pilots live and breath aeroplanes and salary wouldn`t come into it.
It's dangers are a myth of the past. Check e.g. with Boeing or Airbus, no test pilot has died in many, many years.
