Home Schooling Programs for grades 9-12?
Okay, this is my first post and I just realized I have registered on a UK site and I am from the US, so, I don't know if that makes me an idiot or not...However, here is my question:
We are looking for a Home Schooling Program and there seems to be a lot out there. Does anyone have any recommendations or do you know of ones we should totally avoid?

Not knowing the US statutes Chick, it depends on what the minimum legal requirements for educational standards are, followed by where yoou would like your child to end up - and of course, where your child would like to end up, which may differ from your view.
In th UK once a parent opts child out of state system there are only minimal measures done as to whether s/he has attained any milestones.
A parent does not actually have to produce said child during a home visit from the educational authority!
I really hope the law is different in your state.

I am in NY. I too stumbled across this site. It is a lot of fun.
About the home schooling, your state board of ed should provide you with the curriculum and texts. If there are pre-packed programs that you can choose from I would see first which are approved by your state and work from there. Also there must be homeschooling chat rooms where you could get some specific help from other parents from your area.
As a teacher, I am curious as to why you are going this route. Not judging, just nosey!!! Good Luck!!
Oh, I just saw the grade level you are looking for. That's tough as the areas are very specialized in the upper grades. I used to teach GED at night and could not do the HS Math or Science. God Bless you if you can do all those subjects at that level. Really Good Luck!!!

Hi. Since my post we ended up choosing a program - I hope we chose well. It's Ashworth University. It looks good so far.
We are home schooling due to various personal reasons.
I do believe there are pros and cons to both keeping her in public school and doing the home school thing. But for now, we think home schooling is the best option.
I know that when some people hear "home school" they get nervous and think you are going to have some weird kid that doesn't know how to be around people. However, our daughter has a lot of social and community activity. We are trying hard to raise a well rounded, responsible young lady with good morals.

If people saw some of what went on in schools on certain days no child would ever be allowed to return! I applaud your decision to do what is best for your daughter and agree that people do look down on it, I think it is b/c it is unusual in today's world. I have had students who have been home schooled and the results are a mixed bag, just like any other population. It worked well for some and not for others.
