Last winter I dumped all my 'proper' candles and replaced them with battery operated ones...I know, I know, they sound really naff don't they?
They're wonderful though, look just like the real thing but don't leave a sooty residue everywhere. They're even on a timer, mine have all just lit themselves and will switch themselves off in six hours.
Highly recommended for candle enthusiasts.
I have done the same and have those with a flickering flame and an actual wax covering. You really have to pick them up and look closely to tell they're not real. Also thoroughly recommend.
I've got two either side of the fire, two in the conservatory and one in the dining room. All bar the dining room on are in big glass storm type glass lantern things, with pebbles in the bottom. Dining room one is in a wide shallow glass dish. Where do you put yours?
Bet they look lovely Prudie.
We've just had our conservatory refurbished and it now has a glass roof which reflects the flickering candle flames like a kaleidoscope.
