joining the police force

A work collegue of my partners has said that she is joing the police force, however her b/f has a conviction for sct 18, my partner reckons that because of this she won't be accepted, I said that because they don't live together it might not make a difference as she hasn't got a criminal record, then he said if they decide to get married or even live together then she would have to give up her career. Can anyone help in this debate for us.

Except in extremely unusual circumstances, it seems unlikely the police are going to be doing any recruiting in the next couple of years.
And any recruiting they do, do will be one year work experience i.e unpaid.
