I am trying to find a reasonably priced car insurance for my 18 yr old son. He is buying his 1st car. Its a nice 53 reg Renault Clio.

He had an accident last year on his scooter and was held responsible. No damage to his bike but the third party claim was 685.

Any tips for a reasonably priced insurance. The best I have managed to find so far is Tescos at 2100 with a 20% once hes passed his Pass Plus.

I doubt if you will get it much cheaper than that. I know 17 year olds who have paid 3K plus for a similar sortof car.

try this site. Noted best for a comparative.

you could try elephant.com
I'm sure the back pages of Max Power etc are full of phone numbers for insurance companys who specialise in young people or powerful cars etc. could be worth a try.
Get him to buy a cheap 'throw away' car, that won't cost too much to insure. Also if he crashes it (which sadly the odds suggest he might ) then it won't cost too much to replace or repair. I don't know how many youngsters can afford a 53 plate car and the insurance nowadays it's a mystery to me! I'd get a cheap car and build up the no claims. Then get a more expensive car.

I agree with Eddiecurrent. Start off with a cheap car. A 3yr old Clio is lovely but its his first car, he has little experience and would be more peeved if he ruined his nice new car than a older one.

Start off with a cheaper car, build up NCB, then get a better car once he has more experience and confidence. I would keep away from Direct Line, I have had bad experiences with them, they suck! Try Churchill or Admiral. I used to have admiral before I sold my car and they were excellent. My partner has churchill and they are very good.
