Does a new car stereo up car insurance

I thought adding a new stereo would mean you had to inform the insurer of the new radio but after checking with my insurer and confused.com i seems you dont need to tell them. Are other insurers the same ?

It depends wheather they say performance mods or vehicle mods. if it says vehicle then i'd tell them.
either way, the way insurers look at it is a nice new afermarket radio is going to be much more lucrative for a thieving lowlife to steal then an inbuilt standard one so they would probably want you to tell them
approach your insurer direct though.
kind regards

I was getting quotes the other day and they all asked for modifications and only options i could see were modifications that improved the car but head units weren't mentioned. Ill definitely inform the insurer of the head unit and see what they say.

Thanks
