Can anyone recommend a hoover that is good for picking up dog hairs.
I have a border collie (my first dog) and did not realise how much hairs they shed and my carpets are totally covered in them.

dyson animal upright
we have a miele (not upright) which is pretty darn good.
henry - also for unloading them
I must admit I complain about my Dyson animal upright because it is so heavy. However, I have tried others out and nothing works as well on animal hair. I was going to change it because of the weight, but have decided to keep it.
We have a Henry too, but it just is nowhere near as good. OK for clearing up rubble and course grit though.
Miele Cat and Dog cylinder. Brilliant and also light. I find the Dysons far too heavy and fiddly to use the attachments.
I know how you feel, I have Collie/German Shepherd, I have a Dyson, but intend getting the animal next, constant grooming helps, and having the central heating on is one of the causes, or at least that's what we find.

I can't get on with cylinder cleaners at all. Prefer an upright with a beater bar and attachments.
Yes Dyson Animal if it's an upright you want (excellent even with no animals)
Miele Cat and Dog if you don't want an upright. (Both from Which?).
I have a Dyson Animal which is prett good. I find that upritght cleaners are better than cylinder ones for picking up dog hairs.
Miele cat and dog cylinder, every time.
I thought 2shortplanks said "Great for picking up our Spaniel"...haha... one way of eliminating the cause :o)

I've got a dyson cylinder with a brush attachment & it picks up the spaniel hair very well. :o)
When I joined AB, about 4years ago I asked this same question and since then it has been asked in Animals and Nature at least 6 times and the debate always rages long and hard. All I can say is that we went with the Miele and we've never regretted it. Max my dog is a hairy GSD
We have 5 cats and 2 large dogs. We bought a Miele several years ago. Cant beat it especially with the turbo head on.
Miele every time , have you ever seen them up for spares or repairs ? ! Miele are reliable and good value for money, buy cheap bags and not the branded ones, and you won' t go far wrong .
...and you'll need to change the charcoal filter every now and again....phew!
MIELE
wear a rubber glove while hoovering to get into the awkward places and then just hoover up the dog hairs,, especially good on stairs and furniture
