Have any live creatures been released into space to see the effects of space on them? We have our theories on pressure, heat, cold and lack of oxygen but what is the reality if lets say we released a large mammal into space, what exactly would happen?

I wouldn't go that far but something like a vole or a rat.
BTW, Micky ...

I've ordered some of that sfuff ... Arginine AKG.

I'm expecting huge increases in my breathing and muscle recovery when I go running.

Have you ordered pills or powder?
Oh, I see.

When you said "large" mammals I was picturing elephants, tigers, wildebeest, etc, floating around in Space.

That would make for some interesting stargazing.
Pills. Powder seemed like too much of a faff.

Was that the wrong choice?

I take a few daily supplements anyway, so I thought one more would be easy.
The Soviets put a dog called Leika into space. When its air ran out it would have died.
It would have to be something that was not endangered, then.

Wildebeest would be ideal. There are millions of them. They are always in giant stampeding herds on the telly.
Oh, sandy ... that was mean of them.

The crew of Soyuz 11 died when their cabin depressurised during re-entry so to some extent we already know - or at least the Russians do.
No need to go to space, a vacuum can be created on earth easy enough.

And experiments have been done, both on animals and on humans (concentration camp prisoners)
Chuck's avatar looks like it's being experimented upon !

Looks like he's doing the invisible man a 'favour' to me. Hi chuck.
