Airport Security . The Solution ?

Here's the solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports.
I received this email today and thought it worth sharing it with you.

Have a booth you step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you. It's a win-win for everyone, and there would be none of this crap about racial profiling. It eliminates a long and expensive trial. Justice will be swift. Case closed!

This is so simple it's brilliant. I can see it now: You're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion, followed by an announcement over the PA system,
"Attention standby passengers. We now have a seat available on flight number ...."

Is this the answer to our security problems ?

Well putting aside the technical issues of achieving such a thing,
containing the explosion
finding the security staff to operate it
and composite bombs assembled in flight

Suicide bombers aren't exactly know for being risk averse

"I wouldn't risk it at Heathrow they've one of those new boxes you could get hurt!"

Other than that brilliant!
I'm not sure a concealed knife would be considered an explosive device but apart from that very minor flaw in the plan I think it is excellent!!
Not quite sure how it would know how to "detonate any explosive device you may have on you".
I don't know, jake, bombers want to blow up planes, not security booths; they might think it a wasted effort. The real problem is the non-existence of such a device. Are you going to invent it before the one that turns base metal into gold, or after?

They seem pretty OK about driving cars with explosives into the terminals jno or is that just the Scottish variety?

There's also the time it would take to process everybody individually

Heathrow has 60,000 passengers per day

My solution is very simple.

You have a choice of whether or not to go through the full body scanner.........but if you choose not to, you don't fly.
You might be right, jake; I was never quite sure what that was about. Were they really trying to blow up the half-dozen people using Glasgow airport on any given day? Were they even suicide bombers? (I'm not sure this was ever properly established.)
What if you've got a cigarette lighter on you?
I disagree with the idea if you refuse the scan you don't fly (current policy) agree to a search instead, I say that though with no real conviction (I'm not THAT bothered) afterall if you choose to fly they can quite legally shove their fist up ya bum to see what you've got, and you can't refuse.
I think you'd have to request an aisle seat after that, pray there's no turbulence and try to stand up.
they could probably add something to those little anti-DVT muscle-flexing exercises they recommend, everton?
jno, there are rather more than half a dozen people at Glasgow airport on any given day.
