how to get my portable dvd player to play anything

I record from a dvd recorder but these disc will not play in my portable the main machine will not finalise some discs

If the disc won't finalise and it's not a RW type throw it away.
Try a different brand of discs. Use known makes such as tdk ,Sony etc. Unbranded bulk discs can be unreliable.
Make sure the protable (PC ?) has a DVD drive in it, some older ones only have cd drives. Does another dvd play in the portable device?
