How it Works

Dvd Recording

Slowly finding my way with our dvd recorder. I'm using DVD-RW discs. I've been finalising dvds before ejecting them so hubby is going to be able to watch them while he's away working. I've just recorded on long play so have disc space left, can I eject it without finalising then use it later to record another programme and finalise it then when its full. Sorry, probably sound dim but I'm a bit of a novice. Thankyou

Thanks shylock I was worried about ejecting the disc part full without finalising it until a later date that hubby would have problems playing it. Thanks for your help.

I think you are better using DVD-R rather than DVD-RW.

RW disks tend to be used for people who want to re-record things over the top of what they have already recorded (so they can keep using the same DVD).

If you are recording things, then finalizing them, then a DVD-R disk will do just as well. Once a disk has been finalized you cannot use it again.

Also more devices tend to play DVD-R disks than play DVD-RW disks.

Also DVD-R disks are cheaper than DVD-RW disks.

But on the other hand RW disks are perfect for those who want to use their recorder in the same way as they used their video recorders - record a programme to watch later, then record over it.

You probably won't want to keep everything you record.

Aww thanks folks for all your answers, I really do appreciate them but could you help just a little bit more please, I'm still a bit unclear. The progs I am recording for hubby I do need to keep until he's watched them while hes away but does it mean that because I'm finalising them for him I can't delete progs at a later date to reuse the discs. I hope I'm not bothering you too much, thank you.
