Not sure what category to put this in so I'll try this.

Does anyone remember seeing anything on TV in recent months about new capsule-type public loos that sink underground when you've finished using them?

Sorry to be so vague but hope someone can back me up that such a thing exists :D)

Please sit quietly. There's an ambulance on it's way...
I know exactly what your on about. I've just come back from Newquay and they are putting some in down there. they just come out of the floor at night for all the clubbers to use and the store back in the morning so not to be in the way
have a look here:

Click on "Video's" (it's a Dutch site so the apostrophe is correct), then on the Union Flag (top right).

The scrolling list of cities presumably show where these toilets have been installed; there are several in the UK and there are further clickable links.

Many thanks for the very informative answers, especially Steve D.
I think I remember seeing one on 'Trigger Happy TV' - the slap stick comedy show. The scene decepted a busy shopping street with one of these toliets possibly even coming out of the ground, the door opens and I guy stumbles out screaming/or in shock - I cant remember. He was drenched through, his hair was all brushed sideways and he had toliet roll all over him. They were looking of course for a responce from the public/passer -by and as always some people are shocked and scared and some think thats normal...which baffles me how that can be perceived as normal where are these people from???
I'm guessing its for men only?? Why is this? and if their going to spend all that money on this public loo surely a real toilet and a door wouldnt cost much more.
HAHAHA, I've just discovered there is a retractable toilet in Belfast! Everyone I've ever asked about it have just said "i've heard about it, but never seen it" so i assumed it was an urban myth! I'm still a bit confused about it...i mean why? Is the novelty supposed to stop people peeing in the streets?
This requires further investigation!
