My electricity costs per unit are 7.33p during the day and 2.43 at night (economy 7). If I want to work out how much a particular electrical appliance costs to run, which is say 500w, can I do this with just this information and if so how?

A unit is one kilowatt-hour (the amount of electricity used to run a 1000w item for one hour).

It depends when your shitch from day rates to night rates but lets assume between 8am and 6pm for day rate

10 hours at day rate for a 0.5 kw appliance is 5 kwh - 36.65p

14 hours at night rate or a 0.5 kw appliance is 7 kwh - 17.01p

Total cost over 24 hours = 53.66p = 54p

Thanks Rekstout. I'm not too hot at working things like that out, but you've explained it very clearly.
