Anyone live in a mobile home?

I ask because I am thinking of it - I'm all alone in a three bedroom house which - thanks to endowments - won't be mine at the end of the mortgage. I have enough equity to buy one (depending on the model and where obviously) but I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who has traded down in this way.

I sympathise. I looked in to doing this a couple of years ago and was put off by several factors:

Ground rent - seems to go up alarmingly evey year

Depreciation - these mobile homes seem to deteriorate very quickly. They lose a lot of money very quickly, it seems to me. And the site owner can demand they are upgraded every few years.

Lack of space - yes, they appear roomy and are fine for a holiday. But for permanent living in - not for me.

Lack of privacy - it is almost like communal living.

But the biggest factor that put me right off was the Committee, with it's rules and regulations. It would be like reverting to childhood, with parental rules to obey 'for your own good'.

But don't let me put you off! It might be just the thing for you. Just be sure you look at all the pros and cons.

Good luck!
Yes, We did this a few years ago,you must make sure there is no tenure to consider also you need to think about how long your park will be open for some only open for 8months ,most folks go abroad in the shutdown all the cheap hotels are full of people like us( because its classed as holiday home you dont pay a comunity charge) We have loved every minute of our time in our mobile home. Ethel does have a valid point about the rent.. it's much cheaper to live abroad in a mobbie but needs alot of research .. Hope this helps..
Postdog, I have been thinking along the same lines. Rather than a mobile home what about a park home? These are brick built and seem to be much better value. I keep looking at rightmove.co.uk for ideas. I think I will probably go down that route. Happy hunting.
