They always go for a pre-match meal don't they? I imagine that over the years the meal has changed from steak and chips to something like pasta! DOn't Man Utd players eat a lot of Jaffa Cakes at half time?

Hi Tali,

Its advised there shoud be a 3 hour gap between eating and kick off.

There are no rules, just observations, pros prepare for their game earlier than amateurs and none pros.meals can be taken with common sence, but no alcohol.certain pro managers have community meals with players and staff, normally pastas, chicken, boiled fish.sweet tea was a great favourite at half time even boveril, still is today.

Footballers have to have a high intake of carbo-hydrate before a match in order to give them stamina for the match. Most dieters would be shocked at doing this, but footballers will burn off that stored carbo-hydrate throughout the duration of the game.

Their water in-take has to be high too as they sweat a lot and need to maintain high fluid levels.
