parents wont tell them who did it ?
And often the procedure is carried out abroad. So no crime has been committed here.
....and even if it has been performed in the UK, often it will be listed as legitimate cosmetic or medically sanctioned corrective procedure, ie legal.
It should be crime to take them abroad for this.
And one not to reveal to the police when asked, who the culprit was.
And one to not protect their offspring from such attacks.
It’s not strictly true to say that no offence is commited in the UK if the procedure is carried aout abroad.

Since 2003 it has been an offence for any person in England, Wales or Northern Ireland (regardless of their nationality or residence status):

- To perform FGM (section 1);

- To assist a girl to carry out FGM on herself (section 2).

- To assist (from England, Wales or Northern Ireland) a non-UK national or resident to carry out FGM outside the UK on a UK national or permanent UK resident (section 3)

So a parent taking her daughter abroad to be mutilated would almost certainly be guilty of an offence as bringing the daughter to the foreign national for "treatment" would almost certainly be classified as assistance.

Having said that, the gulf between the prevalence of this practice and the number of prosecutions brought is a disgrace. Almost as big a disgrace as the stupid and barbaric parents who expose their daughters to this vile "tradition".

These are newly reported cases under the new rules, not recent procedures. Some will be older women who had the procedure many years ago before they came to the UK.
France, much mocked by people on Ab, has carried out over 100 successful prosecutions.

Once again UK lags behind our neighbours.
There are a few things the French get right, such as this, and there are many they don't.

I'm not sure I get the relevance?
Well, you wouldn't.
Explain it to me then?

Why the need for this: //France, much mocked by people on Ab,//
ER -because France is much---Oh never mind !
