clean the laser ?

also with the old ps1 i found that sometimes i had to put it on its side or even upside down for it to work with some games !

As with all home electronics, sometimes a sharp whack can significantly improve performance. The skill is the positioning and power of the strike.

With the PS2, I would recommend a target directly above the centre of the disc tray, with a force approximately equal to that of dropping a tennis ball from 6ft above.

It does sound like you laser may be on the way out, it may be worth while purchasing a hard drive to put into your PS2, you would need to remove the expansion port and slip in a hard drive-such as maxtor and you would also need the ps2 network adaptor. The whole lot is likely to cost about 70 but the games will play and will work upto 30 times faster than a working PS2 let alone a faulty one....You can buy the whole kit from various websites or off ebay....Have a look here for further info...You can then transfer all your games onto the hard drive. This is all legal as long as you own the games.

Buy a new ps2. I had the same problem. Simply that new games do not work properly with old Ps2. I'm certain this was done on purpose so we all buy new consoles.
