How do I adjust the beam height on my 2001 VW Polo 1.4 ?

There is a dashboard leveller but I want to go lower than the it allows.

There will be adjusters on the back of the headlights but so you don't start to dazzle other drivers any small garage will adjust them to be legal for next to nothing.

Thanks, Toureman, I can see what appear to be adjusting screws which I suppose to be for lateral and vertical adjustment and being fairly competent with tools etc., I need instructions on how to proceed. For example, what direction do I rotate the crews ? Do I have to alter the lateral adjustment as well as the vertical ?

The beams are correctly aligned to meet MOT standards but I want them a little lower.

I knew my wife's Siecento head lights were slightly out of alignment when I took it in for it's MOT, I could not get any more out of adjusting the lights but the local garage mechanic did it in 3 minutes for nothing!
