As far as I am aware all main forms of domestic energy are still used to power c/h. Do they not have heating engineers in the yellow pages ?

Word of mouth is best, do any of the neighbours have oil as well? Oil is quite common where I live as there is no gas in the village, and we find it a cost effective form of heating, but it is important to have oil boilers serviced annually.

My Mother has oil fired heating, the engineer who services it works for the company who supply the oil, maybe try there.

I have oil heating, so does everyone else in my road, its still quite common, and an efficient system is cheaper to run than gas. Service wise, theres not much to go wrong, but if the boiler is ancient, a new one is a fortune, so if there was natural gas in the road it would be cheaper to convert, and, if your mother is on Her own She may qualify for a grant to upgrade.
