I have a blaupunkt car stereo that came with my Vauxhall Corsa - I took it out a couple of years ago when I was bought a CD stereo. Sadly this got stolen last week so I have tried to put in my old Blaupunkt but it is coded so at the moment all it displays is the word "Safe". I was never given a code when I bought the car (if I was I certainly don't have it now) and I am now being told that it is going to cost me in the region of 30 to get this code. Does anyone know a way round this?

When I had this problem with a Vauxhall Astra, I was able to get the code from the Vauxhall main dealer for about a tenner.

If you bought the car new then the garage should have a record on their database (well, we did anyway).

If it's second hand then you probably have to supply the VIN number at a Vauxhall garage.  They would then fax the factory and check on their database (again, that's what we used to do with Rovers, all free I might add).

have a look in the car manual sometimes they are printed on there. Plus some cars have a different booklet for the stereo and that is normanly tucked in with the car manual.

Good Luck

A short skirt and poor confused girl attitude- has got me the code for free from different garages twice.  (Kept leaving the lights on on mum's car and I didn't want her to know I was slowly wrecking her battery!  Needless to say, the second time, I wrote the code down somewhere).  It's the oldest trick in the book, but it works! :-)

I had a similar problem, I was quoted "about 30 by the main dealer (probably plus vat as well!).  I searched on GOOGLE and came up with: www.wigancars.co.uk .  This guy does it by phone and charges 9.95.  Superb service, and he even resupplied it a week later from his diary when I lost the bit of paper and pulled a fuse by mistake.  He even talks you through the entering process (which is not always obvious!), but you do have to have a landline phone to do it that quickly, otherwise wait for payment to process. Good luck!
