What where the rules at the beginning of the season regarding finishing fourth & winning the previous season.

We know now that if Liverpool win & Everton finish 4th that the FA have to deceide, but what where the rules at the begining of the season

UEFA state that they will only allow 4 English clubs into the Champions League.  So if Liverpool win the Champions League then it will be them plus the top 3 of the Premiership (first two spots automatic, 3rd spot will have to go through pre-qualifiers).  If Liverpool lose then Everton (if finishing 4th) will take the 4th spot and will have to go through the pre-qualifying stage into the Champions League.

However, if Liverpool do win, Everton will still go into Europe but in the UEFA Cup, not the Champions League.  Is that confusing or what?! :)

You do realise that all this speculation about the 4th place and stuff means that Liverpool are going to lose...........
The rules at the beginning of the season were exactly as they are now : UEFA allocate 4 places to England and the FA decide who they go to.

Unless the FA have publicised their decision to choose Everton (4th place) or Liverpool (5th place but CL winners) then all but the first line of the first answer here is inaccurate.
