ISP Supplied Router

I've recently received a new "second generation" router from my ISP, TalkTalk. The Router is manufactured by D-Link and bears the TalkTalk logo on the case. I'm currently using a Belkin wireless router that I bought a good few years ago.
If I replace the Belkin with the new router, will it still work properly if I ever decide to leave TalkTalk or would I be better off sticking to my old router? What are the benefits for an ISP in me using their own supplied router eg can they monitor or control my web browsing etc?

If you have had your Belkin modem/router for a few years then it's probably worth switching to the new D-Link which will have the latest comms software and firmware for higher speed transmissions on ADSL and wireless. It will be a standard modem/router so will continue to work if you change ISP's. Store the old one if you are still concerned. The benefits to the ISP ids that they have a known device if they nerd to troubleshoot a problem. The ISP doesn't need a special modem/router to monitor and control your web browsing, they can and do monitor and control your usage from their data centres whatever device you are using
