I know this is a bit lazy, and a bit "what's the point" but ...

... I'm thinking of getting another MGF ... with an automatic gearbox.

Well, it has the option of using those flippy things on the steering wheel, but also just plain automatic.

Point ...

Automatic gearboxes seems to be okay on big car but, on small cars, they can be a bit Jerk-O-Matic ...

Each time the car changes gear, the car sort of lurches, and then carries on.

Question ...

If anyone's ever driven an automatic MGF, does it have a smooth changing gearbox, or a Jerk-O-Matic?

Will I end up with a bruised chest from being jerked against the seatbelt every time I drive it?

There is a device to cushion your chest against the seatbelt that might help you.

Avoid JJ ..
They are neither good nor reliable boxes.
Could end up costing a fortune .. and autos do less to the g.

I don't do many miles, so that's not an issue.

But are they really rubbish ??
No : )
If you like jerking while driving ... ok.
Make sure check performance/driving on the auto box if you buy one.
Not sure the resale value would be as good as manual tho, either.
if its a steptronic gearbox, they do have a tendency to jolt forward and they dont hold the hills

I'm going off the idea !
I would avoid any early auto that has a "cvt gearbox" rover and bmw made a few cars with these, other autos are fine though.

Whoooosh !!
Just stay with a manual JJ. Just think of the leg exercise : )
If you are jerking while driving, make sure that you don't have the top down, to avoid embarrassment (and possibly arrest).
