The other half has often said ... '' Can you sort this out'' ... she will be holding the base of the iron towards me.

Not sure what the recommended method is... But I just get some fine wet and dry paper (about 1000 -1200 grade) and polish the base of the iron with it.
Works for me..!

You can buy an iron sole cleaner at hardware stores (not for non-stick soles though)
