any suggestions of how to remove old taps from a ceramic basin ?? had loads of grief removing the back nut but being in the motor trade i borrowed a 27mm deep socket which overcome that problem i now find i cant remove the taps from the basin !! i assume they are stuffed with putty or the equivalent plumbers sealer , gave them a few clouts with a rubber mallet and levering with a screwdriver , and yes i put a hairline crack in the basin...time to stop. Another 5min job that turned into a nightmare...

The normal procedure is to heat it up with a blowtorch and this will always free it off...not too much or you may crack the basin... bit late now I suppose.

Plan B :- The other method ... have you got any movement on the tap ... if so ... try to put a bit of pressure on the tap body and get a hacksaw blade under the tap ... just saw it off, it's only soft brass. It will be off in minutes.
