I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but I have bought some second hand paving slabs and need to get them laid. There are about 30, and the bloke who is supposed to be doing them charges £15 an hour. How long is it likely to take him, and should I try to get a price for the whole job?

2 x 2 and its not prepared, was originally grassed, but then gravelled but this has all but disappeared into the earth.
I would say about a days work to properly prep the area and lay them. 8hrs total. Always best to get a whole job quote if you can as this prevents him from taking his time over it!!
I`d ask for some local addresses of jobs he has done recently and go and ask his customers if they were happy with his work.
Oh, and whatever you do, don`t part with any cash until you are happy with the finished job.
