knitting dilemma

Most knitting patterns have tight ribs at the bottom of the garment,.I prefer a loose fit around the bottom has anyone got any suggestions as to how to adapt my patterns. Thankyou

Do you want to omit the rib completely? If so just use the same amount of stitches for the main body of the garment after the rib section but knit the rib rows in stocking stitch (knit a row purl a row) instead or rib (knit one purl one)
You could always increase the size of the needle to do the rib, even using the same needle as for the main part of the pattern.
