Shrubs for very dry soil and not much sun

Hello -could anybody suggest what kind of shrubs could i plant for very dry soil and hardly any sun ? The garden next to mine is overgrown with ivy and conifers -hence the condition of my soil .The property is rented out and its like a jungle i would be grateful for any suggestions .Thankyou

I hate gardening. I am the world's worst gardener. (I've lived here for 20 years and I haven't touched the garden apart from cutting the hedge back when the council send me nasty notices). So why the hell am I trying to answer a gardening question? Simply because I know about this ;-)

I have Bergenias planted in a dry darkish area dont think they count as a shrub but they do the job and you even get some nice pink flowers early in the year
