smelly compost bin

Every time I take the lid off the compost bin a disgusting myriad of horrible odour fills the street!!

Anything I can do??

There are two things that come to mind. The first is that it matters what you put in the bin - it must be vegetable matter only, although eggshell is actually beneficial too. The vegetable matter should not be whole things like potatoes, melons or other fruit but cut into pieces. The other is that the bin should be ventilated to some extent because otherwise anaerobic (oxygen starved) conditions arise whereby foul gases can be generated. Overloading or filling of the bin too fast can also temporarily lead to this.

you must keep turning the compost to ventilate I have no probs with mine
Your compost sounds too wet.mix in shredded newspaer, cardboard, egg boxes etc etc. You need a balance of greens and browns
