have you tried the local paper and agencies? i live in stockport and there always loads up for rent...have you tried gumtree?
her current landlord is trying to evict her illegally. as a tenant (depending on the type of agreement she has - or by statutory law) she is entitled to at least one months notice. she should approach her local housing advice or homelessness service for support and rehousing with this horrible landlord. as long as she has been paying rent and not trashing the property, she will get rehoused in a council property. good luck x
She'd be better off trying the housing manager at the local Council offices, or asking to speak to a Welfare Rights worker. Private landlords sometimes charge more than allotted housing benefits'll cover. I know of two Councils who won't re-house straight away, particularly if the woman has a husband or live-in partner, but single parents are put into hostels for a few weeks, and then transferred as and when property becomes available. SHELTER are also very helpful, and most local papers advertise houses to let, but deposits or key money are often required. If she moved in with a relative or friend, this may be seen as over-crowding, so the Council may be able to help out more quickly in that case.
come south.....sit in council offices with eviction letter & pinch kids to keep 'em screaming & running around office - be housed in nice country estate instantly. Oh, and wear a burkha.
