Living Flame Coal Effect Fires

Hi,I have a living flame coal effect gas fire that requires a new set of coals. A local retailer told me that I must only replace the coals with coals made by the gas fire manufacturer and to use anything else is very dangerous. However, I have since seen several internet sites selling replacement coals and there is no mention of what make of gas fire they are for. Please can someone advise me on this.

you MUST use replacement coals designed for the make and model of fire
you MUST never add extra coals
you MUST always place the coals in the correct positions on the firebed (as shown in your fires instruction book)
if you know the make and model of fire try ringing gas on spares in halesowen, you can get the number from their website.
