Telephone Plug/Transformer

I have a pair of Philips phones, about a year old, and on the main phone the transformer is roasting hot all the time. It really worries me, is this supposed to happen?

It has to be plugged in permanently as its my house phone and I cant swap them over as the fitting size is different on phone 2. The transformer on the 2nd phone is cool.

It sounds like there is something wrong with transformer 1 as it shouldn't get 'roasting hot' they should only get warm....
