Hi do I need a roofer or a chimney sweep to fit a bird guard? And does any one know a rough estimate?

Two possible solutions... here in the U.S. they can be purchased at DIY stores. The bases are adjustable in size, but, of course, you still have to go up on the roof. The installation is very simple and can be done with a screwdriver and pair of pliers.
If, on the other hand, that's not your forte', we've found that most chimney cleaners... the sweeps of old, also sell these, since they can easily install them when they are doing their cleaning chores...
