can you fit a more modern fire in place of a baxi fire

Hello, we have a baxi gas fire which is very old fashioned and we would like to modernise our lounge but cant afford to replace our boiler, we have been told that we have to put up with the fire we have or change the whole central heating system to enable us to have something a little more modern in our lounge, surely there is a way in which we can adapt it so we can have something a little less dated. Can anyone suggest anything.

Depending on how old your boiler is ,you could get fire front replacements, providing they are still in stock. Unfortunatly due to new efficency laws they no longer make back boiler units, so its pot luck whether you get a new fire front or not.
If you have a 551/552/401/501 bbu you could get replacement fires. Any older than that you can forget it .Hope this has been of use to you, and good luck.

I took the cover off my old Baxi fire and spray painted it with radiator enamel. Brightened up a treat.
