How do you clean your George Foreman?

The non-stick coating has worn away on my George Foreman grill.

I recently cooked some sausages on it, think there must have been a lot of fat in them, and the grill plate has gone all gungy(?) and horrible. The resulting mess is stuck on like glue.

Don't know what I should use to clean it. Any suggestions please?

I just usually sponge mine down after every use. They now do ones with removable plates typical!

Have you never cleaned it before? Best to clean it after every use, just think of all that old food sticking to it. Fill bowl with warm water and washing up liquid and scrub away, those sponges with the scourer side are best. xx

Thanks for reply 4get. I have cleaned it lots of times (my usual method is that I put several layers of kitchen towel onto the warm plate, spray the kitchen towel with water, then just wipe off) but as it gets older and older, the non-stick coating has worn away. I now find that stuff is sticking to it quite badly and my cleaning method is not working anymore.

Was hesitant to scrub it with a scourer in case I took what little is left of the coating off, but I guess it's the only answer.

Time to get a new one I think

I clean mine when it is still quite warm using a cloth and washing up water, then rinse off

Not a metal scourer, just one of those washing up sponges with a courser side on it. But then the coating hasnt worn away on mine yet. Isnt it amazing though how much fat does come out

I threw mine in the bin, they're a swine to clean! Who wants to be scrubbing a grill whilst your food's gonig cold?
I would'nt mind but everything I ever cooked on it came out dry and tough, and as for your sausages you still have to turn them otherwise thy're all pale on 2 sides.
Waste of money.

I can't decide whether I like it enough to buy another, I've not been overly impressed with it - I had it bought for me as a Christmas present a couple of years ago.

I've alway thought it a bit of a b*gger to clean, removable plates was a good idea. The surface area is a bit too small for my liking (I know you can get much bigger ones nowadays).

even if you get the one with removable plates, they still wear away on the cooking surface eventually. we've got one at work - specifically for bacon and sausage sandwiches!

Buy a cast iron griddle for under £13.00 - click here to see an example and junk the George Formby. (That's what we called ours because it was nothing but a joke! I was glad when my partner knocked it down and shattered it.)
Place the griddle on the two front burners of your cooker and turn these on to a low/medium heat...it'll do exactly what the GF does, although obviously it doesn't do both sides simultaneously. But turning a slice of bacon isn't too much effort really! After a little practice, you'll learn how to adjust the heat-level.
The greatest beauty of it is that, once you've finished using it, you simply lob it into a sink partly-filled with warm water... Try doing that with a GF!..it's clean in a jiffy.

Yeah, I'll agree with the griddle suggestion. I used to love stuff I cooked on mine.
