Burning

Is it true that you can burn out tree stumps and roots by soaking them in diesel and torching them?

Or is it just a bloke myth?

a bloke myth. the diesel will help to kill the stump off but you wont be able to set light to it. Best to buy a chemical called Root Out or hire a stump grinder.
