I have MDF shelves in a bathroom. What do I use to paint them to make them waterproof and scratchproof?

MDF is pretty easy to paint. First put on a coat of MDF primer and then you can paint it with pretty much anything you like. Eggshell is waterproof and pretty well scratchproof or you could use Hammerite or something similar.
