In our home after having the central heating on for a short time, one of the radiators (or what sounds like pipes leading to the radiator under the floor boards) keeps banging and making loud huming noises. We got told that the radiator might need bleeding, but when trying to do this water came straight out hissing - so that didn't seem the problem. Also when it is on it is red hot at the top and cool at the bottom..........any suggestions?????

Hi ollie06,

Try bleeding the highest radiators in the system.

It is well worth bleeding all the radiators starting at the bottom of the house and finishing with the highest. If that doesn't work then it is a "system clean out" with an additive having to be added to the heating tank in the roof, and the system flushed through.

Regards
you are supposed to turn off the radiator when you bleed it. try this and bleed it till the hissing stops. If this isn't the cure then check the return valve is open. Thats the valve at the opposite side from the inlet valve. Note it may not have a handle to turn it, only what looks like a grooved screw.
to much pressure on your boiler must be 1 to1half bar
