i'm thinking of changing from a front loader to a american type top loader as they are meant to hold more and last longer. i wash at least twice a day and my washing machine is wearing out. 2 years old and bearings changed twice and needed a new drive belt!!!!
anyone have one or recommend them or are nor they not worth it?

Most top loaders have poor energy ratings, so cost you more to wash.

The spin speeds are usually lower, so washing takes longer to dry.

No doubt there are some excellent ones out there but they will take some finding.

My front loading washing machine is 3 years old, and is as good as the day I bought it. It came with a free 10 year repair or replace warranty. It is really excellent - and very quiet.

It's a Miele.
we've had a whirlpol american top loader at the pub for 5 years - still as good as new. it does 4 or 5 washes a day- no belts to wear out- it takes hot water directly from the tap so no heating up in the drum - and a full hot wash takes just 12 minutes. we paid 20 extra for a full 10 year parts and labour guarantee. it's a brilliant machine couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Oh I used to love my old top loader, I had the thing (think it was a Hotpoint?) for about 5 years and it was a good 15 years old when I got it given!

I still miss it- being able to just fling in that stray sock you find on the stairs after you've switched it on was brilliant.
I used to have a twin tub which was just fab and would have lasted forever, it's probably still being used by someone.

But, I have a front loader now. AEG lavamat. I have had it for 8 years, and just in the last few weeks it went wrong and my dad fitted a new part which cost about 50. It now washed as good as it did when it was new. I reckon itll be good for at least another 8 years if not more. It is just marvellous.

I read on the interweb the other day that washing machines are only supposed to last you 5 years....So, i've already done well with mine and it has a super energy rating (as most AEGs do) and is quiet and spins only fractionally slower than an old spin dryer. I did an experiment and spun my washing in the machine, then spun it in a spin dryer and only 1/2 a cup full of water came out the load...I think that's queit good..

I have 5 children and a dog and so do at least 2 washes every day
