i have just had a house survey done, although i dont know what the actual written survey says yet. I had the basic survey done which is mainly to satisfy the mortgage lender.

Although they said over the phone that there was a bit of woodworm.

i will defo wait until i actually see the report, but i am just curious in the meantime.

Woodworm is exactly what it says it is - they burrowin to the wood weakening its structure and generally making a mess of it - a piece of infested wood looks like the surround of a dart board - full of holes the size of a dart tip.

Woodworm can be treated by a specialist company who generally offer 25 - 30 yr guarantee against re-infestation.

Had to to do loft in my previous house - stripped it completely bare of all insuation ( in needed replacing anyway ) and let them get on with it.

thanks very ,much, the house has all been double glaszed apart from one window in teh livingroom, where the owners where putting in a patio door, but just hadnt got round to it.

i think it could be that window frame with the woodworm, which if we took the house would be replaced as patio doors.

thanks for your help though.

If you ever get anyone round to test for woodworm , make sure you follow them, the trick alot of con men use is by using an old dart and pricking your woodwork - to make it looklike woodworm so becareful .
It can completely destroy wood. You just get an outer shell of wood, which looks normal apart from the holes, but inside it is just powder.

I would recommend you get a wood preservation/treatment specialist to survey the wood.
