Depends whether you're changing the whole valve or just the motorised (or motoried) bit. If the former, you'll need to drain down your central heating, at least partially. If the latter, if it is standard type, you can just remove and change the motor bit, without any plumbing being involved.

Remember to switch off the mains supply though, the control circuits are at mains potential.
