I haven't got a scooby what an egr is, but if you're a pathetic lady like me you might want to get a second opinion-someone might be trying to get you to pay for something you don't really need! Sure someone here who knows about such things will help you!

I have a simple question
Why did you get the diagnosis ? Sometimes we want to find something .If it aint broke don't fix it

Apparently, EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation and reduces the amount of emissions from your car by "recycling" the gases back into the system before releasing. This is basically all I know about it, so don't ask me any technological questions!

I have been told though, that it can be VERY expensive to replace. So I'd go for a second opinion, as someone said, before anything. But definetly check up on it.

The EGR valve is a common fault on Vauxhalls, and on those cars eventually cause stalling and poor/jerky running. I would assume similar results on most cars.
First thing to try is a thorough clean out of the valve and the throttle body its attached to.
If the unit needs replacing Vauxhalls cost about 120 for the parts and then half an hours labour to fit. Total cost likely to be around 200. Again I would assume other cars to be similar in cost.
