I have a pale-ish blue carpet on my hall landing and stairs area, and all my doors, windows etc are white. I need it repainted (dont want paper) but I'm not sure what colour would go.

Its a smallish area, I dont want blue, and white would look too stark in it.

Any ideas? Would a grey-ish colour look horrid?

i think grey would look depressing but i dont like that colour anyway..why dont you go to the dulux web site and they will colour match for you and even send you money off vouchers..

go to your local DIY shop and get some colour charts...decide on some favourites and get match pots...do a small area of each one of the wall and see which one you prefer - its amazing how different a colour can look in different locations - depends on amount of light, size of walls, shade of your carpet etc.

Much cheaper way of doing it than getting a colour, putting it on the wall and deciding two weeks later it just isn't right and having to buy another lot!

Happy decorating!

yellow goes well with blue and would help make the small area look larger. If you choose the right shade, it will look very contemporary rather than 60's/70's

What about a nice biscuit colour, light blue and beiges are in at the moment, I think it would look nice.

I honestly don't like the sound of grey. It's such a gloomy colour to look at especially during the winter months. Any of the warmer softer pink / violet colours might be nice especially if they catch the sunlight through an upstairs window. As Mrs. Jo has suggested, get a colour chart from your DIY shop and a few mini sampler tins of emulsion and try painting some small patches of each colour. Live with them for a couple of weeks and then you won't make an expensive mistake.
