i have a tumble dryer which is relatively new but each time i switch it on it keeps cutting the power supply off.

Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening.

The tumble dryer overloads the circuit that is is on by the sound if it. Is it in the garage by any chance?
Does the filter need de-fluffing?

the dryer is in the kitchen and was working well up until yesterday when this started happening. There's power to the dryer as the light comes on when you switch it on but as soon as i press start it trips the power supply.

Also to copippin i defluffed the filter and cleaned it only last week.

Thanks for your answers guys!!

When you say ''trips the power supply'' do you mean the rcd trip, this is the one like a circuit breaker with a switch but also fitted with a test button or is it a normal circuit breaker with just the switch part on the front.
If it is the rcd trip this means that maybe the unit has fluff inside and it absorbed some dampness and is making a small leakage of current to earth, a small problem which is easy to rectify.
if it is a normal circuit breaker then it has a major fault inside and requires a internal repair and spare parts.

Either way you will probably need someone to open it up and test it for you.

Thanks Qapmoc. The power supply goes off in the main electric box tripping the main switch.

In that case it must a major short circuit inside, most likely that the motor has burned out or the heater has broken and is touching metal inside.
