I have had a a Westwood sit on lawnmower for many years. The revolving pick-up brushes are not been turning. I accidentally reversed over an old cotton sheet and this got caught up on the brushes. I stopped and untangled it but then I noticed the brushes not turning. Any ideas as to what has happened? Can I fix it? I cannot now afford an expensive repair if it is something I could cure!? Any advice gratefully received. I have no idea what has happened! I feel like Jeremy Clarkson’s farming ability! Bramley.

Check the ends of the 'pick up brushes' axle.

There is a high probability small strips of the cotton sheet got tangled at the axle ends and around the 'clamping arangement' which connect the brush axle to its respective end bearings.

The clamping arrangement is usually held by a couple of bolts.
It is not always apparent that a foreign body is causing an obstruction until the brush axle is removed.

You might get lucky and under a flash light see the offending obstacle. For better access the 'hood enclosure' which houses the brushes should be removable.

Hope this helps.
