Since my bathroom was flooded I have been giving the toilet and cistern a good cleaning every day.

I love foaming water in the bowl and yesterday bought stuff for the cistern and the bowl but alas can't get the foaming bit. Anybody advise.

does it say it will foam, there are many cistern blocks on the market
Harpic Bloo in cistern blocks foam and you can get lemon ones which don't colour the water if you don’t like blue water BUT if your water is hard, they will foam much less.

Parazone tablets - to clean, foam and freshen - and Astonish in bowl to clean and remove limescale. Maybe the two didn't mix.

You should be VERY careful mixing cleaning materials JJ. It's all too easy to produce chlorine gas (as used in WW1).
...chlorine gas (as used in WW1)....and every water-treatment works everywhere...well, not strictly true - some use ozone.
Have you ever tried mixing bleach with ammonia gingebee? We used to when were were studying chemistry in our teens. The chlorine gas given off is rather more concentrated than you come across in the atmosphere near a water treatment works. Give it a try sometime but do it outdoors and sniff it VERY carefully.
bhg..I'm well aware of the dangers of chlorine (chemistry degree, chlorine leaks requiring breathing apparatus in water treatment plant etc.)...I was just being mischievous!
...and I would agree that nobody should mix different toilet cleaners...particularly (acidic) descalers and chlorine bleach...recipe for disaster!
Ah, you know more about it than I do then ginge. That's the drawback with discussing things online - you don't know the knowledge level etc of people and can easily misunderstand/misinterpret their posts.
bhg...quite. Although I've been a "scientist" all my working life, I only bring it into the arena when useful or necessary!

well I have bought Bloo cistern tabs - will look and see or if I can hear if the toilet has Bloo up.
Baking soda or bicarbonate of soda sprinkled liberally and then followed with with a dash of vinegar makes the best (foaming) loo cleaner

Is Baking Soda and Bicarb not the same thing

I did buy a big tub of Vim (powder) and sprinkled some down toilet and when it hit toilet water it started to foam.

Sorry i should have said baking powder not soda
Whatever you buy is only going to foam for a few seconds. You can't have the toilet foaming away for 24 hours of the day.
