We have lived in this house for twenty four years and the bedroom carpets are the original ones, as laid by the house builders. They are in need of replacement but the thought of moving all the bedroom furniture is daunting and it keeps putting me off having it done.

We have four bedrooms and all of them need doing. Any tips for making it a less daunting prospect? Each one done separately, with furnishings moved into another room? Oh.........the thought of it puts me off........help!

That makes sense, Ummmm but the thought of emptying and moving wardrobes, chests of drawers, dressing tables, beds, mattresses and cabinets fills me with dread. The young and fit members of my family, who would help, live too far away.

Arrrrrrgh!
I don't have carpets in the bedrooms. Just stained floorboards...
Question Author
Same here, Prudie, really. Carpet tiles for a kitchen, perhaps?
Question Author
Even if we went down that route, Ummmm, we would still need to move everything out in order to do the staining.

How big are the bedrooms? Would all the furniture fit into one room? You'd be surpised how much can fit in when it's all pushed against a wall.
Question Author
I think it will have to be one room at a time. All the rooms are full.
Although it'll take longer it's probably the best way to do it...and less hassle.
Tilly, it may be an idea to speak to the carpet fitters?
They should be able to give you good advice regarding moving stuff.
They hear similar stories to yours every day.

I'll go and talk to some carpet people this week and see what they say.

Thank you all for your contributions. Wish me luck!

Thanks, Pete. I will do that.
All the best, Tilly, and don't worry about it.
There is always a solution!
Tilly - Carpetright now offer a service where they move the furniture, fit the carpet and then put it back.

Don't know the full details or how much they charge but might be worth asking.

Thank you, Pete.

I'll have a look at that, Silliemillie. Thank you.
For replacing your old carpet you can go with the 2 options… either you empty your room by moving the furniture into the different room or you should adjust the furniture in the same room and start removing the carpet strip by strip by cutting it in a square shape.
In my opinion I think first option will be better because it will take less time to remove your carpet as you would have moved your all furniture to the another room then it will be easier to remove carpet in one go. But if you choose to remove the carpet strip by strip then obviously it’s going to take too much time.
Rugs! And plenty of them.
We used Buenchico's method but laminate flooring instead of carpet tiles.
I've just redecorated a L/room for someone local Tilly, I done the same as Chico but in another way, I "Stanley Bladed" Cut carpet Squares then removed the carpets Bit by Bit, same logic with the same result.
4 rooms carpeted is a good contract for any fitter....leave it to the pros. And...go & visit rellies while the jobs on
The problem Tam a lot of Carpet fitters expect the room to be empty & will not due to H.& S move things like they used to do years gone by.
