Can anyone recommend any effective way using household items to remove cooking grease from painted tiles (proper tile paint - not emulsion). I have tried vinegar and lemon juice but neither of these has been effective?

Have you tried washing up liquid?

It's designed to remove grease from plates, etc. so it might work.

Fairy Power spray is good if they are stubborn grease spots.Works really well on pans etc. Could be a bit expensive though.Depends how many tiles you have.
I'd be careful using fairy power spray, no offence, but it is quite vicious. Not a problem with glazed tiles, but could off the paint. Have a look in your supermarket for an orange based de greaser. Less severe and smells nice.
Flash Orange Wipes are brilliant at removing grease and dirt from just about everything!!
If you are still looking then try Astonish, available from Wilko's & Morrisons as well as other places. Brilliant stuff - you won't be sorry if you buy it
use Sugar Soap - gets rid of grease and dirt from walls before painting and will do the trick on tiles.
Sugar soap, without a doubt ! But CIF is pretty good, too

Thanks for all you suggestions.

I can state that Flash wipes do not work - at least not on my tiles.

I will try Astonish as I have heard got things about that product and as far as i am aware is not harsh to the surface.

I actually used sugar soap when preparing the tiles before painting them, so that might be worth a try too.

Thanks again for all your help

Be careful when using citrus based (esp lemon) cleaners as they can get under the glaze and cause a rainbow coloured effect.

I have painted tiles in my house.  They were there when we moved in.  I find that "CIF with Bleach" brings them up O.K.
