Decided to get a dog again at long last, the plan was to get a short coated or non shedding small beastie requiring minimal exercise. Meet my large male border collie Mac!
So.......have sea grass floor covering throughout (except kitchen and bathroom of course) with a few deep pile wool carpets scattered around. My vacuum isn't up to the job of excessive pet hairs so would appreciate advice based on ABers experience as to which brand to get as a replacement. Many thanks

Miele cat and dog is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used.

Thanks lardhelmet - will check them out.
This was one of the first questions I asked when I first joined AB and as a result we ended up with a Miele cat and dog.It dealt with Maxs hair(see avatar) with no problems.
Yes Miele cat and dog.We still use it although Shaney is long gone .It is heavy to lug up the stairs though.
There you go rsvp. Two recommendations for the Miele Cat and Dog.
Another thumbs up for Miele Cat and Dog.

paddywak and shaneytar2 thank you - the weight maybe a bit of a problem as I was hoping to go lighter with my new one and I do have stairs to take up and down (maybe I'll leave my old one upstairs as Mac only sleeps by my bed and doesn't wander about upstairs.)
This is what we do now rsvp.I use the Miele downstairs and I've got a lighter cheapie one for upstairs.I only lug it up when I have a blitz ,which isn't that often these days:)
We're lucky we have a bungalow, but weight apart they are excellent cleaners.
I have a carpet sweeper that is rechargeable. It picks up the cat hairs brilliantly - can't remember how much but less than £50.
No offence wolfie, but you can't really compere it.Max a long haired GSD probably cast more hair in a day then your two cats do in a month and thats after grooming,Id epect a border collie loses quite a bit too.
