...something. It must have happened to a lot of us. But to forget a child?

Did it myself once many moons ago. Left my first born outside the butchers, only one minute's walk from home but didn't realise until I got in the house.
Loads of people temporarily forget they have kids.

But she could have done worse, the Plough is a nice pub.
Yep...My mum left my sister outside the post office.
I left my baby outside a shop too once, she was still there when I went back for her.
My mum and dad left my sister's new baby outside a shop and went home without her. To this day my sis doesn't know.
apparently they were in separate cars he thought daughter was with Sam Sam thought daughter was with Dave and security guys....
Sounds impossible until you've done it. Easier with a baby than one who's older though. I got so used to having that tiny hand in mine, or just the sense of presence, all the time when out, that I'd sometimes have a moment of panic when it wasn't there, before remembering that I hadn't got the child in the first place! Bet that's common.

The story says a lot about PMs and the media now. Can't imagine something like this being reported or known years ago; too private (and too embarrassing).
Did the same with my dog once, I thought he had walked home with my husband and he thought he had walked home with me. We both walked home different ways and when we got there. at roughly the same time, the dog was sitting on the doorstep waiting.
dont think either forgot, think its more a case of each thought the other had the child with them as Rowan's already said.
I left my dog tied up outside a shop and went home. She was still patiently waiting when I went back. Also left my baby in his pram outside a shop (in the times when you could). OH asked where the pram was when I got home.Baby was also still there.
My mum left me outside a shop once and knew when she got home something was missing !
I used to lose my child in Asda................unfortunately people kept bringing her back.
I've left one of the Junior O's in a shop before now. Easily done.
In 1949 my mother pushed me a mile in my pram to the Co-op. She left me there and caught the bus home. Only then did she realise what she had done. Later she would say that she regretted ever going back for me!
dito!

easily done, but makes you wonder what the security detail were doing ...
My friends husband left their 4 year old son in a huge shopping centre, he drove home (3 miles away) and only realised he'd left him when my friend asked where her child was.
Isn't it amazing how common this is! And yet the media make it seem like there's a child abductor on every street corner.

And talking of child abduction, Mr Frog was once in a shop with his daughter, who was about four at the time. He reached down to hold her hand to leave the shop, got as far as the door, looked down and - someone else's child!
It does seem that leaving babies and children behind is fairly common !!
I left my baby at the hotel reception when checking in. When I arrived at the room the phone was ringing and was asked had I forgotten something. Had to think a few minutes before I realized what I had forgotten.
I left my baby outside the post office when I was a young mum many moons ago, ma-in-law said "wheres the baby" and I ran like blazes and he was still there fast asleep in his pram.
